Local independent estate agents Thomas H Wood has two showrooms in north Cardiff and is very much at the heart of these communities. The family-run company was founded by Thomas H Wood in 1970 and is now managed by Tom’s sons John and Paul Wood. The loyal commitment to its community is shown through its partnerships with Whitchurch Heath Cricket Club, Cardiff Corinthians A.F.C. and Radyr Lawn Tennis Club and its highly visual presence in both suburbs.
Already managing the PR and social media for Thomas H Wood, Effective was approached by the company to design new banners for use in the sports grounds it sponsors as well as advertising along the Whitchurch high streets. The branding would also be used to create new imagery for social media and new shop front boards.
What started out as simply designing some banners ended with a complete brand refresh. We discovered the client didn’t have an up-to-date vector graphic of its logo which is needed for large-scale print assets, so we suggested a brand refresh centred around its existing visual elements, building on its recognisable blue and black colours and tree imagery. We gave the logo a fresher feel by simplifying the tree, lightening the primary blue colour and modernising the typefaces.
We also created brand guidelines to help anyone creating a message from the brand in the future to know and understand which graphic elements to use and how to use them.
After creating a new vector logo, we designed bilingual large-scale boards including their mission statement: We know property, we know lettings, we know Cardiff.
The client was so pleased with our work that they asked us to redesign their shop fronts, sales boards and various marketing material. The Radyr and Whitchurch showrooms have fresh, modern shopfronts and the high streets are now lined with Thomas H Wood branded banners, as are the sports grounds the company sponsors. The stylish, stand-out banners are in keeping with the company’s branding, which proliferates across all mediums including social media gifs, leaflets, e-newsletters and the newly designed website.
